“I think humor is sacred; I really do. It’s my sacred mission. I think humor is the most important thing we have as human beings. It’s thought of as a lesser thing but it’s really our most sacred quality and without it we’re dead.”—Wayne White (excerpt from the movie Beauty is Embarrassing)
It’s the two year anniversary of my father’s passing, and all day I’m reminded of how hard and cruel life can be. And then I had a FaceTime chat with my soon to be 2-year-old nephew, and he sang “Happy Birthday, Aunt Mandy… Cupcakes!” and I’m reminded of how awesome life can be, too. Just wish it could always be awesome for everyone. All of the time. Well, maybe not for the jerks. They can take some of that harsh and cruel shit.
“Oh my God, Jerry, when you check your email, you go to Alta Vista and type ‘please go to yahoo.com?’ God, Jerry, you don’t deserve the internet!”—Tom Haverford from Parks and Recreation “Sex Education” (via theclearlydope)
“I got to attend the pilot taping for The Midnight Show with Pete Holmes, a new late night show that would come on after Conan if it gets picked up for the fall. Pete Holmes is successfully capturing the silly spirit of his stand-up and podcast “You Made It Weird” and translating to the late night format. The show featured several taped pieces including Pete as a terrible doctor and an Ocean’s Eleven-style intro to his writing staff. The guest was T.J. Miller, who hilariously mocked his good friend’s first foray into television. With Conan O’Brien’s company behind it, I think the show has a very good chance of succeeding in the midnight time slot,”—Matt Wilstein
